Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Glossopdale School & Sixth Form.  We are a popular, caring and successful school and our core purpose is to support students of all abilities and backgrounds to develop high aspirations and achieve their potential.

We have the highest expectations of students; every student is expected to work hard, behave well and contribute positively to the school community. Our mission is to develop in each of our students the academic skills, learning habits, values and character traits necessary to thrive.

‘The school has high expectations for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The aim is that pupils ‘thrive’ and show tenacity, hard work, responsibility, independence, vision and excellence.  Most pupils demonstrate these characteristics.’    Ofsted 2023

We fully recognise that students have different interests, dreams, abilities and needs and our school’s broad and flexible curriculum reflects this. Staff are qualified and experienced in ensuring that students achieve their full potential regardless of their starting points. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum from Year 7 through to Year 13. Our curriculum extends beyond the classroom and our students are encouraged to participate in many other learning experiences that do not begin and end at the bell.

‘The school's curriculum is ambitious and has been carefully designed so that pupils learn about increasingly complex aspects of the subjects they study.’ Ofsted 2023.

Being an 11-18 school also helps us to attract high quality teachers who want the opportunity to teach across the whole age and ability range. We go to great lengths to appoint the best teachers, because we know how crucial that is.

All students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and conduct. Discipline in the school is clear and consistent to ensure an orderly and effective learning environment in which we expect high standards of work, behaviour and uniform.

Students at Glossopdale are cared for by a strong pastoral and inclusion team who go above and beyond to make sure they feel safe and belong.

‘Students develop positive relationships with their teachers and feel safe. Most pupils learn in calm classrooms.’ Ofsted 2023

Students joining our Sixth Form, both from our own school and other local secondary schools, benefit from the new state-of-the-art Sixth Form building which is separate from the main school. The Sixth Form provision includes specialist and general teaching rooms, study areas, a social space and a cafe.  Students have the opportunity to study a wide range of A-levels and BTECs in the Sixth Form. Many of our students go on to study at university and we have a strong record of students achieving the grades they need to secure their first-choice places.

I am extremely proud to be the Headteacher of Glossopdale School & Sixth Form and consider it a privilege to be a part of such a vibrant and caring learning community.
